My Cheat-Sheet for PMP - Project Management Professional
Hi all,
Recently I have aspired to become a PMP Certified and hope to get it by mid of 2019. While preparing, I though of sharing some of my findings which may be helpful for some to get the idea of what we need to understand before appearing for the PMP examination. In this series of blog posts, I will be posting some more details about PMP's PMBoK guide book intercepts to be prepared for the final day and here we go with the first installment of its own with some keywords or definitions which we need to know as a project manager to make our life more easier in this jumbled world of management:
Project:
A temporary endeavour, having definite start and end date, undertaken to create a unique product, service or result.
Project Management:
The application of skills, knowledge, tools and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements.
Program:
A group of inter-related projects, executed together to achieve a common outcome.
Portfolios:
A group of programs, projects and other related work grouped together to achieve the strategic objectives.
Operations:
A regular ongoing work, producing the same product or service or result that was a successful result of a project over and over.
Project Life Cycle
A path, which the project follows till its completion.
Project Phase:
A collection of logically related project activities that culminates in the completion of one or more deliverables.
Phase Gate:
The termination point of a work or kill point of the work or stage gate or phase exit or phase entrance or phase review
Processe:
A repetitive sequence of tasks done to achieve the project management objectives by applying skills, knowledge, tools and techniques.
Knowledge Areas:
Areas of specialization in project management activities.
Information:
The analyzed, measured and transformed data gathered and collected during the project and is distributed amongst the stakeholders and team members.
Work Performance Data(WPD):
Data representing raw observations and measurements identified during project execution.
Work Performance Information(WPI):
Analyzed data from various processes in the project.
Work Performance Reports(WPR):
Representation of work performance information in physical or electronic format.
Tailoring:
The selection of processes and tools which are suitable for the particular project.
Project Management Business Documents(PMBD):
Documents maintained and updated throughout the life cycle of the project aka Project Business Case and Project Benefit Management Plan; which helps understand the investment and benefits of the project.
Financial Measures:
Measures representing the success/failure/net present value/Return on investment/Internal rate of returns/Payback period or benefit cost ratio.
Project Environment:
The key influencing items for any projects proceedings aka Enterprise environment factors and Organizational process assets.
Enterprise Environment Factors(EEFs):
Factors affecting projects but can not be controlled by the team or the project managers.
Organizational Process Assets(OPA):
The documentation developed while project execution.
SOPs:
Standard Operating Procedures are one of the organizational process assets.
Organizational Systems:
The factors determining the way, the project objectives are going to be achieved.
Management Elements:
Principles stating the division of work using specialized skills and availability to perform work, authority given to perform work and paid fairly for performed work.
Project Governance:
Strategies through which the project objectives are kept inline with the organization's strategic goals coupled with the stakeholder's objectives.
Organizational Structures:
The skeleton of the organization followed to build the complete team to work on a project and to achieve its goal.
Project Manager:
The leader of the team of members in achieving the objectives of the project.
Stakeholder:
The one who leave an impact over a project be it positive or negative.
